News from May and June

Attention: open in a new window. | Print |

We have continued our program of potlucks in member's homes. One on May 21, had as topic "What is Humanism". Another on June 13 had as topic "The 13.5-billion year Creation story", kicked off by showing the first 15 minutes of the video "View from the Center of the Universe". Both the book and video are by Joel R. Primack and Nancy Ellen Abrams. Enjoyable discussions were had in each case, as well as convivial general conversation, accompanying gourmet potluck dinners. Many thanks to our hosts!

The following is a "work in progress," as the author learns how to post and edit on this web site, with help as available from our webmaster. Please excuse the stumbling! It is hoped that posting will become easier once instructions are posted for doing this. Since nobody else has yet taken the plunge, I am trying the first experiment.  If more people will take this plunge, then we can have a successful web site.  For now, please email your input to me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , and I will do my best with it.

We are looking for volunteers to host further potluck dinners. These are excellent opportunities to enjoy good conversation in relaxed surroundings, over good food and drink, in your own home. Meet wonderful people!

We can really recommend these occasions, both for volunteer hosting and for attendees.  Photographs of the two most recent potlucks are shown below.

We would like to continue the potluck suppers during the summer months if there is sufficient response. To help in planning, please go to the Doodle web site: http://www.doodle.com/ef58h79aveqh4b4z and enter your name and date preferences.

Most who signed up for our email list did not already identify as Humanists, but expressed a desire to learn more about Humanism. The quick answer to the question lies in "Humanist Manifesto 3", which can be accessed from our Home Page. For greater depth, we are planning a 4-session evening discussion course for the fall, at the Wright Tavern Center in Concord, titled "Introduction to Humanism". Tentative dates are Oct 5, 19, Nov 2, 16. Keep an eye on our announcements. If you would like to reserve your place, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. If you are not receiving our "Concord Area Humanist group" announcements, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and request to be put on our email list. Please also contact us at the same email address with any suggestions or questions, or articles to post. Thank you, and looking forward to seeing you at our events.

We are also looking for volunteers to help improve this web site, so please do contact us.
